Well...

It's official!!! We're homeowners!

Will put up some pictures tonight, as I have to get ready for work, and because I can't find the cord for the camera.

Haley

Ahhh, memories

One year ago today, I was wigging out. Buying flowers at Trader Joe's, struggling to fit them in a cab to take me over to the Jurys, getting bagels and donuts to feed the fam, and taking a wonderful historic tour of Boston. Yes, it is our ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY today!

Pretty unbelievable, actually. It doesn't feel like it's been a year. In some ways, a lot has changed, like my job, buying a house, and planning a move. But in a lot of other ways, nothing has changed. We still love each other like crazy, and Eric still leaves his socks on the bathroom floor every single night.

Anyway, it's a busy day, and I can't linger. I hope everyone reading this is doing well. :)

Spring has Sprung

Yes, it has. Boston is quite lovely in the spring, and generally that makes me hate it here LESS. However, the nice weather inspires more people from Boston to be out and about, which makes me hate it MORE. So, really, nothing has changed.

It was the Marathon yesterday, which I really like, because it is the one day of the year that people here actually go out and root for people instead of, oh, say, looking directly at someone and then burping (this really happened to me yesterday. I was on the phone with my mom--ask her if you don't believe me). Anyway, our apartment is right near the finish line, so it's a lot of fun to go out and cheer people on as they get close to the end. I really do have an appreciation for people who go out and do this sort of thing. You may or may not have read a post I wrote back in January, where I vowed that I was going to do a half-marathon. Ummm, yes. I let that resolution slide. In fact, I haven't ran since the Jolly Jaunt in December. And I don't feel bad about it, either, which is surprising given that I usually beat myself up about pretty much everything I say I'm going to do but don't, and especially exercise.

Anyway, they changed up the route just a little, and I was supposed to meet my girl Ashlee at the Prudential building (which is two blocks across the street from my apt) for some Marathon viewing, burritos and make-up shopping (recipe for a perfect day!). Instead, I found myself in a full-out THRONG of people, strollers, wild children with face paint, and exhausted runners. I couldn't get across the street! I could SEE my destination, and literally, I was 20 feet away from it, but I couldn't get there. So I walked 6 blocks up the street, and then heard from Ashie, who was stuck on the wrong side of the street, too. We ended up getting on the T, going down to Kenmore Station (and again, winding up on the wrong side of the street), and just getting a burger and going to the bookstore. Minimal Marathon viewing, maximum irritation with the whole situation.

Anyway, it was a nice morning, and I brought my legs out for the first time since October. Walking to work is great, but I am hose-averse, and choose to wear pants 6 months out of the year rather than rock the dreaded black hose/white sneaker look. So today, I wore a dress and my new Crocs (which don't look like Crocs--they look like flats) and I was happy.

This

NOT This

In House news, which I am trying to keep in perspective, because otherwise I would just obsess, the inspection is happening today, and the appraisal happened yesterday. Yes, it's really happening. I can't believe it. So excited about the whole thing, but so so SO nervous.

Gotta run. :)

BIG NEWS!

No, I'm not pregnant... Yet. I still have the fever, though.

This is so huge. We're buying a house! Pure insanity, given that we weren't even planning on doing ANYTHING house-related till next December. We went back to Indy, met up with our realtor and now good friend, Jim, and he took us to my dream home. We got the house for $20K below the original list price--it is, by all accounts, a steal.

Welcome to Casa de Glover-Matson!

Quick update

Soooo... We have been so busy lately that literally, we're waking up, going to work, coming home, and going to bed. Finding a couple minutes here and there to do fun things like write blogs is becoming a rare occurrence.

Anyway, we're teetering on the edge of some REALLY big news, so if we don't put an update on for a while, it's because we're freaking out.

Love,
Haley

Back in Boston

So, the next time I say that we're going to drive to Indiana, please just hit me in the face. Because it's neither fun nor efficient. What it is, is a LONG DRIVE. Particularly in a VW Golf.

But on the bright side, we made it there and back almost without incident, saw the fam, found my dream house, and attended a very nice wedding. Many of these activities almost require a blog of their own, but I will address those at a later time. For now, my top priority is finding some lunch.

Love,
Haley

About Plastic Bags...

As you may have read, I am currently on a mission to rid my life completely of plastic bags. It's turning out to be nearly impossible, but all the same, I think it's a good way to spend my time, berating the crazy lady with 27 barrettes in her hair who works at CVS for double bagging my stick of deodorant--because, you know, the bag is going to break on my 2 block walk home... At the grocery store the other day, I started putting groceries in my pocketbook (this is possible because even though I am 29, I carry a purse big enough for any 80 year old...), and the checkout girl thought that was the weirdest thing she'd ever seen. Eric agreed with her, of course. But I didn't use any plastic! Anyway, I digress.

Today, one of our illustrious elected officials proposed that Massachusetts levy a 2 cent tax per plastic bag used. And he wonders why "Tax-achusetts" is our nickname...

So, I'm on the fence about this. On one hand, taxation is an effective way to deter behavior, and there is certainly 2 cents per bag worth of cost that we bear in cleaning up and landfilling the stupid things. On the other hand, there HAS to be some sort of limitation on the ability of our legislators to tax us. Massachusetts' state budget is like $28 BILLION, and I know for a fact that a whole lot of that money goes towards stupid pet projects in places nobody ever goes, like the Merry-Go-Round in Holyoke or the Bonnie Brae Camp, which I don't even think exists (yet, there are still at least 25 homeless people within a stone's throw of the State House... Nice priorities, huh?).

Anyway, I've been thinking about it all morning, but I feel nothing strong for either side of this issue. I suppose for the time being, I will just continue to use my cloth bags, and continue to just complain about Massachusetts politics. What?! Complaining is totally productive.

In better news, we received notice this morning that the Gov made a great choice in appointing the new Secretary of Education, under which my department will start working quite soon. His choice is the best possible outside of overturning the legislation that created the Secretary in the first place. I am RELIEVED.

Trip to Indiana in 15 days!
